Open Access and Archiving Policy

ss-logo

Scientific Scholar is committed to ensuring the long-term accessibility, preservation, dissemination, and discoverability of scholarly content published on its platform. We support open and responsible scholarly communication and work closely with journal owners, editors, authors, libraries, indexing agencies, and preservation services to maintain permanent access to published research

Open Access Policy

Scientific Scholar believes that scholarly knowledge should be accessible to all. We support both Diamond Open Access and Gold Open Access publishing models in partnership with scholarly societies, academic institutions, and journal owners.

  • Diamond Open Access: Publication costs are fully supported by the journal owner, society, institution, or sponsoring organization, and no fees are charged to authors.
  • Gold Open Access: Journals may charge Article Processing Charges (APCs) to support publication and dissemination services. Applicable APCs, if any, are clearly disclosed on the respective journal websites.

All open-access journals published by Scientific Scholar undergo double-blind peer review and are made freely accessible worldwide in HTML and PDF formats under applicable Creative Commons licenses.

Unless otherwise specified, articles published by Scientific Scholar are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA) license. This license permits users to share and adapt the material for non-commercial purposes provided appropriate credit is given and derivative works are distributed under the same license terms.

For journals or archival content migrated from other publishers, the applicable license may differ depending on the original publishing agreement and licensing terms in effect at the time of publication. The specific license applicable to each article is clearly indicated on the article webpage and PDF.

Authors generally retain copyright of their work unless otherwise specified by the journal or society owner.

Through close collaboration with scholarly societies, editors, and academic communities, Scientific Scholar seeks to promote equitable access to reliable scientific knowledge and support the global dissemination of research.

Digital Preservation and Long-Term Archiving

Scientific Scholar recognizes the importance of preserving scholarly content for future generations. To ensure long-term digital preservation and continued accessibility, all journals published on the Scientific Scholar platform participate in Portico, a trusted third-party digital preservation and archiving service.

Portico preserves published scholarly content and ensures continued access in the event that content becomes unavailable from the publisher’s platform for any reason.

In addition to Portico preservation, Scientific Scholar maintains:

  • Redundant server infrastructure and backup systems
  • Persistent DOI registration through Crossref
  • XML-first publishing workflows using internationally recognized standards
  • Metadata dissemination to indexing and abstracting services
  • Search engine optimization and discoverability infrastructure

Self-Archiving Policy

Scientific Scholar supports responsible sharing and dissemination of scholarly work. Unless restricted by individual journal policies or licensing terms, authors may:

  • Share links to the published article version
  • Deposit the published article or accepted manuscript in institutional repositories, funding agency repositories, or personal websites
  • Use their work for educational and non-commercial scholarly purposes in accordance with the applicable license terms

Authors are encouraged to cite the final published version of record using the assigned DOI when sharing or archiving their work.

Permanent Availability of Published Content

Scientific Scholar is committed to maintaining the integrity and permanence of the scholarly record. Published articles remain permanently accessible except in rare circumstances requiring correction, retraction, or removal in accordance with internationally recognized publication ethics guidelines and applicable legal requirements.

Corrections, errata, expressions of concern, and retractions are managed transparently in accordance with COPE recommendations and journal editorial policies.

Metadata and Discoverability

Scientific Scholar disseminates article metadata to major indexing, abstracting, and discovery services to maximize the visibility and accessibility of published research. Metadata may include:

  • DOI registration
  • ORCID integration
  • XML metadata
  • Abstracting and indexing feeds
